I am rather flabbergasted that so many of the comments posted here can be praising this documentary for making the mess that were in clear to them. I found this film to be almost completely incoherent, with an enormous range of topics cherrypicked from financial history and economic theory and spun together to make an argument that says what? That humans are irrational actors and have trouble predicting the future? This is not an enlightening thesis and it does not flow logically from the points (barely points) raised by each of the subsections of the program.

The Note:Hi Bill,(my brother)Did you see the program The Ascent of Money last week on PBS?We must have lived within nearly a stones throw from the 6 foot cement wall near 8 Mile Road thats referred to in the course of the film. Seems like you, I, Peter Janick and Danny Suhutski should have run into that thing more than once while on our bikes while heading for the Cooper Sand & Gravel Hills or other such nearby adventurous environs back in the day. Do you remember any such wall? I dont. All I remember is the high tension towers along 8 Mile Road and thinking how much power they must deliver.Funny they picked Detroit though of all US cities to discuss the concept of Red Lining. I realize while saying it, this truly is a broad-brushed, non-PC generalization, but it always seems like it is some such snob-nosed, Harvard, Cambridge or Oxford, England type scholar character (in this case would you believe all three?!) who just cant wait to pick away at America. I suppose growing up with stuffy English history classes that so often portray Great Britain as the great victor, the land upon which the sun never sets, you know, the episode that portrays the American Colonies as the one that got away, just sits in their craw and continues to fester away dont you think?
